You can't spell Fumble without U M !

Wow!  After winning a "must win" game against Arkansas (on Nov. 23rd) in overtime, MSU did it again against Ole Miss on Thanksgiving night.  This was an historic "Egg Bowl" for several reasons.  First, Dan Mullen became only the second MSU coach to win 4 of his first 5 games against Ole Miss. (The other being Allyn McKeen beginning in 1939).  Second, this was the first time in "Egg Bowl" history that a game went to overtime.  Third, this is the first time in MSU history that they are bowl eligible 4 years in a row. (Click here for ESPN video highlights.) Three possible bowls are being speculated on for the Bulldogs, but most folks making bowl predictions are saying they will play in the BBVA Compass Bowl (on January 4th) against Rutgers.  This prediction comes with a caveat though.  Rutgers is currently 5-6 and must defeat the USF Bulls (2-9) on December 7th to become bowl eligible.

Busy Pre-Thanksgiving Week

Lots of things I'm interested in this week.  As Usual, I'm going to start with football. 
In the first round of the North Mississippi 6A playoffs last Friday, Starkville High defeated Grenada High, 14-7, in a very close game.  As a reward (?), SHS gets to travel to Batesville and play the #1 ranked South Panola tigers.  The winner will play the winner of the Tupelo/Madison Central game for the North title and a chance to play in the State 6A title game on December 6th.
MSU travels to Arkansas this weekend in a "must-win" game.  They are in the position that they have to win their last 2 regular season games to become "bowl eligible."
Southern Columbia Area High (PA),  area where DKW is from, is 12-0 and playing 11-1 Old Forge High in the 3rd round of the Pennsylvania playoffs.
The Bloomsburg University Huskies (10-1) won the PSAC championship this past weekend by defeating Slippery Rock 42-38.  They received a #2 seed and will get a first round bye this weekend in the Division II playoffs.  West Chester and American International will play this weekend for the right to travel ton Bloomsburg on November 30th.
DOCTOR WHO TURNS 50 on Saturday.  BBC America is featuring the Doctor all week, but I want to share three items of interest:
1.  There is a 7 minute pre-quel on line ( http://www.bbcamerica.com/anglophenia/2013/11/watch-new-doctor-mini-episode-night-doctor/ ) titled "Night of the Doctor" that is really cool.  I don't want to tell you about it an give anything away, but you should watch it - It may surprise you who appears.  Don't read the article on this link until you watch it - "Spoiler Alerts" - ya know.
2.  The new regeneration episode will air live World-wide  on the 23rd.  (1:50 PM on BBC-A in Mississippi).  However, when it airs at its normal time on Saturday night, there is some additional doctor-related material that will push the broadcast to a full 2 hours.  (The 1:50 showing is the episode only and runs 70 minutes).
3.  On Friday, (Nov.22) there is a movie documentary airing titled "An Adventure in Space and Time" and is about William Hartnell and the launching of the show in 1963.

Me and my Shaddow.............

Shaddow & Sophie

Now, I've written about my dogs before, but Shaddow and I had a little moment this morning that had me thinking about blogging about it. 

After I feed the little girls (Sophie & Chiquita) in the morning, I take them out to do their business before I leave for work.  Shaddow usually stays in bed.  She might pick her head up and give me that "s'up" head bob, before once again relaxing.  I don't worry about it, because she is a *very good* dog!

Shaddow came into my life when DKW and I began dating in Dec. 2008.  DKW has had her since she was a 2 month old puppy.  She turned 12 years old in August of this year.  She very relaxed and mellow.  I've never heard her bark at a human being, but she will bark at critters occasionally.  At her age she moves fairly slow and doesn't get too excited.  The most excited I've seen her get is when I get home from works and the little girls are bouncing about wanting attention, she will start bouncing too, with the same "You're Home! You're Home.  Give me some attention!" action.  So I end up scratching the heads and backs of all three.

This morning though, Shaddow went out with the little ones, and after finishing with her own needs, walked over to where I was watching the little ones and nuzzled my hand.  I scratched her ears and she gave a little "whuff" and sat down beside me.  This took me by surprise because she had never done it before.  I rubbed her head and asked if she was ok.  She stood, nuzzled my hand and then leaned into me as she walked forward.  She stopped a couple of steps in front of me, just watching Sophie & Chiquita sniff about.  She then turned her head, looked at me, and then dropping her head, walked back up on the deck to be let back in the house.

Now I know people give animals credit for a lot of things ("transference" is what its called) that they aren't really doing.  So maybe that is what I'm doing, but in that moment, I felt like she was telling me that she was leaving behind two fine girls to take care of DKW & I when she is gone.  *sigggghhhh*  I do love the old girl.  I hope she's around for a long time to come.

Random Rumblings

SSW - Halloween 2013

First, Football.  In what had to be one of the most amazing and controversial finishes to a game that I have ever been in attendance at, Starkville High defeated Madison Central 45-42.  I'm attaching a couple of links so that you can read about it yourself.  Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, on both sidelines were shaking their heads at this one.  Now if they take care of business in their last 3 games (which they will be favored in), they will be the number one seed in our region and host a first round playoff game on Nov. 15th.
MSU plays UK tonight (on ESPN) and is favored by 10.
Now I know my proud Grandpa slip is showing, but just look at my latest grandchild up dere ^ (born 9/13/13).  Ain't she a Cutie?  All dressed up for Halloween.
On Monday (Oct. 21st) DKW and I were watching "Bones" as Brennan and Booth finally tied the knot.  We couldn't help looking at each other, smiling, and saying, "We used it first!" as Temperance marched down the aisle to the song "At Last", sung in the show by Cindy Lauper.  At our own wedding (Oct. 31, 2009), we used the original version done by the phenomenal, Etta James.  Regardless, the song is special to us and yes, next week we celebrate our 4th anniversary.  We do have plans!

I've been busy with projects at work the last couple of weeks, but decided I needed to make time to publish an entry.

On the football front, big game tonight for SHS.  They are hosting Madison Central in a game that will, in all likelihood, decide first & second place in Region 2-6A.   Both teams are 5-2 (3-0 in Region 2).  MC is slightly favored (2 pts.) in what is basically a pick-em game.  C'mon Jackets! Time to Bow Up!

MSU has a bye this week and quite frankly, has had a disappointing season thus far.  They are 3-3 overall and mathematically (with 6 games left) can become bowl eligible.  Last week was homecoming and while we did win, it was nothing to write home about.  MSU barely eeked out a 21-20 victory against Bowling Green and was (except for one play) very unimpressive doing it.  With the six remaining games against teams that are, or were,  ranked this year I would not be too surprised if we don't win another in 2013.  I'll be unhappy - but not surprised.  I will, however, continue to support my team.  Its what a true "fan" does.  Go DOGS!

My Raiders, (sigggghhhhhh) 2-4 and in last place in the AFC West.  'Nough said.

The temp is getting cooler and the grass is growing slower.  I'm planning on mowing next weekend (for the first time in 4 weeks) and I thinking that it might (fingers crossed) be the last time this year.  This will leave my weekends free for other projects, for which I seem to always have something going on.  Whether a necessary or pleasure project is the question.  But DKW will tell you that I feel a little lost when I don't feel like I've accomplished something over the weekend.

Back to Work

Me & Savannah 9-26-2013

It's been a little over a couple of weeks since my last entry, but I have a good excuse.  Me and DKW went to Florida for a week to visit the little cutie that you see me holding.  Savannah Sue is all that and more.  With a name like that, can Savvy Sue be anything but a "Southern Belle".  We stayed visiting Savannah (ok - and her 'rents) for a week.  This week I was back to work, and I won't lie - its been a very trying week.  Not only did I have my routine stuff to catch up, I had end of month and beginning of month things to do.  I finally catching my breath, but a little bit will carry over to next week.  It will be easier though.
Since my last entry, MSU defeated Troy 62-7, but it gets a lot tougher this weekend with SEC foe LSU coming to town and angry (following a tough loss to Georgia).  The current line is LSU by 10.
SHS defeated Columbus 35-13, to go 3-2 on the year thus far.  The Yellowjackets play Northwest Rankin High (1-4)tonight.  Its SHS's homecoming and they are favored.  So, barring a total collapse, we should be 4-2 once the night is over. (And 2-0 in our region. Columbus & NW Rankin both in our region.)  Fingers crossed! Go Jackets!
With all the disruptions to my schedule, I got away from my writing a bit, but I am making a concerted effort to get back to it.  I've gone as far as to schedule time during the day just for writing.  I hope it works.
