A Good Weekend

I don't usually blog on Mondays because I'm pretty busy at work, but I decided to make time today. This past Friday (19th) DKW & I didn't get to make it to MSU's season opener (baseball) with the University of Rhode Island because we had the pleasure of babysitting Jonas, one of my grandchildren. It was an exciting game as State scored 3 times in the bottom of the 9th (with 2 outs) to win 9-8. Saturday though, we made up for it. Saturday was a gorgeous day and DKW made it a "sports day" for me. First, we went to MSU's second game with URI (at 2PM with 60 degree temp and clear skies) which State won 9-0. Then we went to a leisurely supper of sushi at China Garden and finally we attended the Mississippi (North Half) 6A Championship game between our local Starkville High Yellowjackets and the Greenville-Weston High Hornets. Starkville had great teamwork and won decidely 84-67.

Sunday was more of a lazy day, spent at home doing laundry, reading, watching the olympics, etc. But it was nice to wind down after a busy Saturday. I'm going to cut this short because I do have things that need to be done.

Everyone have a great day!

Its Snowing!

I know that's not such a big deal in some parts of the country (I know this because I lived in Ohio for a while), but here in Mississippi - half an inch is cause to close the schools and public offices. I don't know why, but it amazes me that when a little snow and/or ice drops, so does a lot of folks' IQs. For example, I walked downstairs to get something out of my truck and watched someone in an "official" MSU vehicle do this. Coming into the parking lot I use is a very slight incline. He had slowed to pull off the road and going up the incline the rear tires of the truck started to slip a little. So what does "genius" do, why he guns the engine. The truck slips to the right a little more (towards my truck) but hits a dry spot and lunges forward. At this instant, Einstein slams on the brakes, sliding into and over the curb, and taking out 3 bicycles parked at the rack. Wrong of me I know, but the first thought through my mind was "What a dumb*ss! A least he didn't hit my truck!"

Anyway - rumor has it we might see up to an inch accumulation here. Let the panic begin! Sheeesh!

Hope everyone has a good Valentine's Day! Remember - Always cherish your loved ones - enjoy your time together - & make great memories!

Decisions. Decisions.

I had read something once about your life being a series of decisions and each decision you make affects the decisions which come after. Profound, Huh? Anyway - Life goes on! Life gives you lemons, etc....

Anyway, believe it or not, the college baseball season (for Mississippi State, at least) starts a week from tomorrow (weather permitting). So, on February 19th - I plan on being in Polk-DeMent Stadium at Dudy Noble Field for MSU's opening game with the University of Rhode Island. First time ever for these two schools to meet.

Sigh! I've been getting a little itchy to get out and do some stuff around the house. I need to do some pruning, some work in my drive way, patch a couple of spots in my roof, work on the drainage in my yard, etc..... You get the idea. But its still pretty cold (highs in the low 40s) to be doing that. Once the highs start hitting the 50s (at least) I plan on doing some of this stuff. Besides, before I know it - the weather will be warm and it will be time to start mowing again. Fun, fun, fun!

Oh - and before I forget - the Saints did win the Superbowl (as I predicted), but by a lot more points than I figgered! So - congrats to the SuperBowl Champion New Orleans Saints!

Everyone have a great day!

Hmm! What is she planning?

Last night DKW asked me if I had anything planned for supper tonight. I told her no and asked what she had in mind. She just smiled and shook her head - so my curiosity is aroused as to what we might be having tonight. I know she took some ground meat out, but beyond that - who knows? I guess I'll find out when I get home.

Sunday, Feb. 7th, (for the brain-dead out there who don't know) is the Super Bowl. New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts. Wow - the colts are favored - and since I kinda like both teams - I won't be disappointed - whoever wins. But I have to admit that my heart lies with the underdog Saints. I lived in the New Orleans area (Gretna, LA) for 4 years - so you can see why. I'm hoping a Super Bowl win will finally put the "bag-heads" to bed forever. My prediction - for what its worth - Saints defense will carry the day: Saints - 34, Colts 31. Guess we'll know how accurate I am next week.

Everyone have a great day!

The Only Thing Constant Is Change

Its funny how much music seems to affect our lives. How we come to associate certain songs or types of music with different events or times in our lives. Even though I am now married to DKW and there are certain songs that I associate with certain events in our short time together, I still experience a bit of melancholy and/or a sense of loss when I hear certain songs that I know were among Sue's favorites - and I guess I always will. The thing that makes this bearable is the absolute certainty that DKW knows and understands that I am this way and that it in no way diminishes the love I now have for her. She is a very understanding person and has certainly helped me go on facing what, before I met her, was becoming a very dull life. I don't think I ever have told her (but she will know now) that after our first date together - I got in my truck and as I was leaving her place I turned on the radio and after a commercial ended - the first song I heard was AC-DC's "Big Balls". Just never thought to bring it up before and it didn't seem appropriate to bring it up on our next date. Should have though, now that I know her better - she would have thought it was funny.

My youngest son (in the Coast Guard) has gotten his orders, and he was happy, because he is getting to go where he wanted (Miami, FL) if not the exact unit he wanted. I'm a little sad he is moving further away, but I am happy that he & his wife are getting to go where they want to go. His wife is from Florida.

Still no trace of Harley, but unless there is some news - this will probably be the last entry about him for a while. I've pretty much said all that can be said for a while.

DKW and I will be taking a vacation up north this summer to visit friends - some of mine and some of hers - and we started the initial planning stages last night. I think we are both getting a little excited about it as we get closer to going. Just have to make sure we have someone to take care of the critters we have.

Everyone have a great Day!

Still No Harley

I was going to make a big post today, but think I'm going to wait a day or two now. Still no trace of my buddy (see previous post). I promise a more upbeat post soon.

Everyone have a great day!
